Getting Started – Chipped Windscreen
First, you need to determine the severity of the chipping on your chipped windscreen. A chipped windshield may only be repaired if the diameter of the damage is smaller than the size of a quarter. There should also be no visible cracking around the chip. If the chip is quite large or if cracks have already appeared, it may be time to take your vehicle to the repair shop.
Acquire a razor blade. Use the razor blade to clean the inside of the chip, making sure there aren’t any lose pieces of glass in or around it. Treat the chip just like you would a wound.
Fixing the Chip – Chipped Windscreen
Make sure the area is completely free from dust and dirt. To do this, you need to acquire a high quality glass cleaner. With a cloth and a glass cleaner, rub around the chip making sure the area is clean. Try your best not to get the glass cleaner inside the chip. If you get the glass cleaner in the chip, wait for it to dry.
Follow the directions instructed by the glass cleaner. You will be asked to place the epoxy applicator and the suction cup over the affected area on your windscreen. You should then follow the instructions stated on the windshield repair kit.
Final Reparations – Chipped Windscreen
After the plunger and the suction cup has done their job, you will then be asked to you drop a bit of the epoxy into the remaining damage and then place the film on top of it. You should press the film firmly to the windshield using the blade provided. You will let the film rest on the damage for about ten minutes. After this time, you may remove the film using your blade, and voila, you have successfully repaired your chipped windscreen.
